OUR STORY
Unlocking Data Since 2018
The story dates back to 2018 when Stefán Baxter, who has been working on leveraging artificial intelligence to improve business operations since 2011, founded Smart Data. Initially, the focus was on finding ways to unlock data — to open it up and make it accessible to the public.
In 2020, the company joined the Supernova business accelerator with one of the founder’s brainchildren, Quick Lookup. A dedicated team worked tirelessly to make data accessible for the masses.
The projects "Knowledge Graph for Data Science and AI" and "Automated Standardization of Icelandic Proper Names" received funding from the Technology Development Fund and the Language and Technology Strategy in 2020 and 2021.
Subsequently, the team was selected to participate in Inception, NVIDIA’s innovation program, where the first generation of Context Suite began to take shape.
The knowledge within Smart Data’s distributed team in the field of applied artificial intelligence is extensive, and the experience found here is unmatched in one place.
Current clients operate across various sectors of the business world, with projects being highly diverse. However, whether it's Arctic Adventures, Blue Car Rental. Bónus, ,Brimborg, Elko, RARIK or The Icelandic Tax Office, their common goal is the same — the correct implementation of artificial intelligence.
